Key Responsibilities

  • Assist patrons, including students, teachers, and staff, with research, reading recommendations, and other library-related needs.
  • Conduct library classes and instruction to promote literacy, information literacy, and library skills.
  • Maintain knowledge of library-related procedures, including cataloging, circulation, and collection development.
  • Support the development and implementation of library programs and services that promote student learning and engagement.
  • Collaborate with teachers and other staff to integrate library resources and services into the curriculum.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in library services and literacy education.

Qualifications and Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must meet the following essential qualifications:

  • Possess an Associate's degree or higher, or 48 credit hours from an accredited college or university, or pass the Para Pro test.
  • Possess or be eligible to obtain educational assistant licensure issued by the New Mexico Public Education Department.
  • Knowledge and experience in assisting patrons and conducting library classes.
  • Knowledge of library-related procedures.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Bilingual and biliterate in English and Spanish.
  • Experience working in a school library or educational setting.
  • Knowledge of literacy education and library services best practices.
