Graduate Lighting Designer- New York (Summer 2026)
Buro Happold is a collaborative and innovative company seeking a Graduate Lighting Designer to join their diverse workplace culture in New York. The role involves working on environmental impact assessments, daylight design, lighting strategies, and detailed lighting designs for various projects.
Responsibilities
- Environmental Impact Assessment work to meet planning requirements considering light spill analysis and overshadowing
- Sunlight & daylight massing analysis for architects and developers
- Daylight design including specification of control devices such as louvres and shading devices
- Lighting strategies & master-planning for public realm and cities
- Lighting concept designs
- Concept visualization & 3D light modelling
- Scheme outlines with cost feasibility
- Detailed lighting design including architectural integration detailing
- Lighting control specification
- Bespoke luminaire design
- Site monitoring, including programming of control systems and focusing of luminaires
Skills
- Bachelor or Master's Degree in Architecture, Lighting, or Architectural Engineering
- Coursework and/or experience in architecture (studio and/or history), lighting, or building systems design
- Portfolio: Please include a link to your portfolio or attach it directly to your resume when applying
- Experience using AGI, Revit, Enscape, and Photoshop beneficial
- Interest in the lighting design industry with an emphasis on architectural lighting design or daylighting analysis
- Ability to communicate thoughts and technical ideas in an accessible manner
- Eagerness to learn and work as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Experience in 3ds Max, ElumTools, Grasshopper or Rhino a bonus
- Lighting related internship helpful
