Reporting to the Education Director, the Academic Coach will provide in-person academic support to 6th to 12th graders in Academic Resource Centers all over San Diego County. Locations include Carlsbad, Mission Valley, Kearny Mesa, Clairemont, North Park Paradise Hills, East Village, Pacific Beach, La Jolla, and Southeast San Diego.
The Academic Coach will work in an autonomous environment, building rewarding relationships with students from vulnerable communities. We are looking for candidates who have a passion for improving students learning experiences and get excited about teaching math! This role provides excellent experience for anyone interested in becoming a teacher.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide in-person academic support to 6th to 12th graders (one to six students per session) on core.
- Provide academic coaching in mathematics subjects (pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry), American and World Literature, essay writing, and/or completion of graduation e-portfolio.
- Document all work performed into a tutoring database as a requirement for payment.
- Work part time six hours per day (9am-3pm or 8am-2pm), Monday to Thursday (hours will vary based on location).
- Commit to completing the program, once assignment is accepted. The contract is from September 5, 2023 April 26, 2024.
- Minimum of one year teaching/tutoring/coaching experience in the areas of pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry, American and World Literature, and essay writing.
- Ability to build rapport with students and be upbeat, engaging, patient, and able to motivate learners
- Experience using videoconferencing platforms like Zoom, and comfortable navigating online educational resources required
- High school diploma and at least 90-96 accumulated undergraduate credits required.
- Genuine passion for learning and teaching
- Teaching credential is not required
- Life experience similar to student population is preferred
- Candidates who are bilingual in English and Spanish are encouraged to apply
- Candidates must be willing to be vaccinated or be tested weekly for Covid-19, and willing to work in- person.
- Candidates must be able to pass a Live Scan background check and a TB test as a requirement for employment.
