What We Look For In a Latin 2 Tutor
- Advanced Subject Mastery: Deep knowledge of Latin fourth and fifth declensions, subjunctive mood, passive voice, participles, infinitive constructions, relative clauses, indirect statement, and intermediate vocabulary. Guides students through analyzing participial phrases, constructing indirect statement, identifying subjunctive usage by clause type, and translating adapted Latin authors. Emphasizes developing reading fluency and connects intermediate Latin to Roman literature, legal and scientific terminology, and critical thinking skills.
- Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction: Familiar with Latin 2 curricula and common challenges such as mastering the subjunctive mood, understanding passive voice constructions, and translating longer connected passages. Adapts instruction using paradigm review, graduated reading difficulty, and National Latin Exam practice to support intermediate Latin students building toward AP Latin or advanced classical language study.
- Effective Teaching Methods: Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with, explain material using multiple approaches, and adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
