Job Summary

Job Description

Shape the future of secure tech with us!

At Telstra, we’re more than Australia’s leading telecommunications company — we’re a tech powerhouse with a global presence in over 22 countries. We're on a mission to build a connected future where everyone can thrive, and we know that starts with our people.

We believe in creating a workplace where you feel supported, valued, and empowered — a place where your career grows with you, and where wellbeing, flexibility, and purpose are part of the everyday experience.

As a Security Architect

You will be passionate about shaping secure, forward-thinking solutions that protect millions of users and systems. In this role, you’ll be a trusted expert, helping define and embed security architecture and standards across major strategic initiatives.

Crucial: We are seeking hands-on Security Architects with proven experience in cyber architecture assessment. This capability is highly valued because it ensures you can directly evaluate and design secure solutions rather than only oversee the process.

While leadership experience is respected, this role is best suited for professionals who have personally delivered architecture assessments and solution designs, not just led teams executing the work.

Risk assessment experience is advantageous, but your primary expertise should be in security solution assessment, as this is the core skill we’re looking for.

You will work closely with stakeholders across the business to provide security thought leadership, steer architectural decisions, and make sure our solutions are resilient, future-ready, and aligned with Telstra’s Cyber Security Strategy.

This role suits someone who thrives in complex environments, communicates clearly, and loves bringing people together to solve tough problems.

What you’ll be doing

  • Define and govern security architectures across major tech initiatives.

  • Ensure alignment with Telstra’s security policies, principles, and risk frameworks.

  • Lead security quality assurance activities and support operational readiness.

  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, vendors, and business teams to embed appropriate security controls.

  • Evaluate new security technologies and help shape our capability roadmaps.

  • Create reusable frameworks and patterns to simplify future projects.

  • Translate technical risk into business context — enabling informed, confident decisions.

  • Support the creation and governance of enterprise security strategies and standards.

  • Build strong relationships across the tech industry to stay ahead of emerging threats and opportunities.

What you bring

  • 5+ years in complex security architecture and solutioning.

  • Expertise in security requirements, control definition, and risk assessment.

  • Proven experience delivering secure architectures at enterprise scale.

  • Clear communicator — able to translate technical ideas into business value.

  • Comfortable working through ambiguity and shifting priorities.

Bonus if you bring

  • Familiarity with Service-Oriented and RESTful architecture design.

  • Experience with secure cloud-based solutions.

  • Exposure to AI/ML security concepts, including generative and agentic AI.

Certifications that would shine

  • Security/Risk: CISSP, CISM, CRISC, SABSA

  • Cloud: CCSP, AWS Solutions Architect, Azure

  • Architecture/Process: TOGAF, ITIL, COBIT, Agile

Why Telstra?

We’re committed to creating a workplace that honours diversity and inclusion. That means real flexibility, inclusive policies, and leadership that walks the talk.

Here’s what we offer:

  • Performance-based pay

  • Thousands of learning programs to help you grow

  • Purchased leave scheme & an additional Telstra Day off

  • 30% discount on Telstra products & services

  • Toolkit provided – we’ll set you up with the tech you need

  • Opportunities to work globally across 22 countries

  • A genuine commitment to flexible working and family support

Be part of a company that leads with impact

We’re proud to be among the top 2% of global companies in the CDP Climate Change Index 2023. At Telstra, your work contributes to something bigger — a more connected, inclusive, and sustainable world.

Inclusion matters here

We’re stronger when we reflect the communities we serve. That’s why we welcome and encourage applications from women, First Nations Peoples, the LGBTQ+ community, culturally diverse individuals, and people with disability.

We support all our candidates with reasonable adjustments and inclusive practices throughout the recruitment process. If you need support, please contact our team at [email protected].

Ready to make your mark?

If you're ready to bring your whole self to work, shape the future of cyber security, and be part of a team that’s doing meaningful, future-focused work — we’d love to hear from you.
