Position Roles & Responsibilities:

As an Animal Care and Rehabilitation Intern, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Assist the rehabilitation team with intake, care, and placement of native wildlife
  • Collaborate with Vet Tech staff to provide daily veterinary care and record keeping for our animal residents
  • Observe annual check-ups and procedures performed by our veterinarian
  • Participate in public education spotlights to promote animal welfare and conservation
  • Maintain accurate records and adhere to arenaflex policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties as needed to support the team and ensure the well-being of our animal residents

Minimum Qualifications and Program Requirements:

To be considered for this internship, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Be currently enrolled in a college or university or have graduated within the past 12 months
  • Have completed at least 30 college credits with a 2.5 GPA or above
  • Be available to work Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (2 of the 3 days) and Saturday (required)
  • Be available to work 24 hours per week (360 total hours)
  • Be available for 15 weeks starting either August 22 or August 29, 2025
  • Possess the ability to read, speak, and write English in order to successfully complete essential job functions
  • Be willing and able to work outdoors in all types of weather
  • Demonstrate a passion for working with animals and a commitment to learning
  • Successfully complete a background check, drug screen, and TB skin test

Physical Requirements:

This position requires:

  • Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently
  • Standing, walking, climbing, bending, and lifting/holding for a majority of the workday
  • Constant movement across zoo grounds for the majority of the workday
  • Routine exposure to external elements, including heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid weather conditions
