Primary Responsibilities, and Minimum and Preferred Qualifications: What skills are needed to be successful in this role?

  • Familiarity with floodplain modeling approaches. Technical expertise in climate hazard data (ex. flood, extreme heat, wind, drought).
  • Strong experience in contract management. Strong experience in product development and user testing for data products.
  • Experience with developing agile workflows.
  • Collaborative mindset to build systems and partnerships that make climate data more useful, equitable, and actionable for use by NYSERDA and other stakeholders in NYS.

Are there any specialized skills that must be present for the position to be successful?

  • Familiarity with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling. Familiarity with the development of FEMA map products and floodplain management.
  • GIS or other geospatial tools, data analysis, experience performing climate risk assessments.
  • Experience in developing and implementing data products or platforms (including user research, prototyping, and testing), strong analytical skills, strong communication across multiple stakeholders, strategic planning.
  • Coding skills in Python is a plus.

Education, Certifications, Degree requirements

  • Bachelors degree in relevant field (ex. environmental science, risk management, computer science, data science, or similar). 3-6 years of relevant experience. Demonstrated experience with climate hazard datasets is required.
  • Masters degree in relevant field is a plus.
