Release Train Engineer (Agile Program Director)

Release Train Engineer 100% Remote Position Overview We are seeking a highly experienced Sr. Release Train Engineer (RTE) to lead Agile execution and delivery coordination across multiple cross-functional teams within a fast-paced Healthcare SaaS environment. This individual will serve as a servant leader and coach for the Agile Release Train (ART), driving alignment, execution, transparency, and continuous improvement across Product, Engineering, QA, DevOps, Infrastructure, Security, and Business stakeholders. The ideal candidate brings strong SAFe expertise, enterprise Agile leadership experience, and a proven background managing complex SaaS product delivery initiatives in regulated healthcare environments. This role will play a critical part in ensuring predictable delivery of scalable, secure, and high-quality healthcare technology solutions while fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and facilitate Agile Release Train (ART) execution using SAFe methodologies across multiple Scrum and Kanban teams.
  • Coordinate and facilitate PI Planning, Scrum of Scrums, ART Syncs, Inspect & Adapt workshops, retrospectives, and release readiness activities.
  • Drive alignment between Product Management, Engineering, Architecture, QA, DevOps, Infrastructure, and executive leadership teams.
  • Identify, manage, and resolve cross-team dependencies, impediments, risks, and delivery bottlenecks.
  • Monitor ART performance metrics including velocity, predictability, quality, throughput, and delivery timelines.
  • Partner with Product and Engineering leadership to ensure roadmap alignment and successful execution of strategic initiatives.
  • Support release management processes and coordinate enterprise SaaS deployments across cloud-based environments.
  • Foster Agile best practices and coach Scrum Masters, Product Owners, and delivery teams on SAFe principles and continuous improvement.
  • Facilitate communication and transparency across stakeholders, ensuring visibility into program status, risks, and milestones.
  • Collaborate with DevOps and Infrastructure teams to improve CI/CD processes, release automation, and deployment efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare industry standards, security requirements, and operational governance practices including HIPAA and HITRUST.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on scalability, operational efficiency, quality, and team maturity.
  • Support organizational Agile transformation initiatives and enterprise adoption of Lean-Agile methodologies.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in Agile Program Management, Scrum Leadership, or Release Train Engineering roles.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience serving as a Release Train Engineer within a SAFe environment.
  • Strong understanding of Agile, Scrum, Kanban, Lean, and SAFe frameworks.
  • Experience leading enterprise-scale software delivery initiatives within Healthcare, Healthcare Technology, or Healthcare SaaS organizations.
  • Proven ability to manage complex cross-functional programs involving Product, Engineering, QA, DevOps, and Infrastructure teams.
  • Experience facilitating PI Planning and coordinating large-scale Agile delivery programs.
  • Strong knowledge of software development lifecycle (SDLC), release management, and SaaS delivery models.
  • Experience working within cloud-based environments and modern DevOps organizations.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, facilitation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Proficiency with Agile management tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, Rally, and Confluence.

Preferred Qualifications

  • SAFe Release Train Engineer (RTE) certification preferred.
  • PMP, Scrum Master, or additional Agile certifications are a plus.
  • Experience supporting HIPAA, HITRUST, SOC2, or other regulated compliance environments.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, DevSecOps practices, and cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.
  • Experience supporting healthcare interoperability, patient-facing applications, analytics platforms, or enterprise healthcare systems.
  • Prior experience leading distributed or global Agile teams within high-growth SaaS organizations.
