Gear Games is looking for an exceptional Lead Game Designer to champion card and content creation for Arcane Rush, our flagship free-to-play autochess CCG. As the Lead Game Designer, you and your team will completely own new card and content creation for Arcane Rush. This will include design concepting, implementation and balance for new playable factions, heroes, card mechanics, expansions, and other live content for Arcane Rush. We are looking for a strategic design leader who is capable of rigorous mathematical modeling and possesses the innovative spark required to create exciting and memorable gameplay. Master the Metagame: Become a top player within Arcane Rush to cultivate a deep, first-hand mastery of the game to directly inform design, balance, and content strategy. Own the Card Ecosystem: Lead the design and execution of new card sets, mechanics, and systems from initial concept to live balance. Mentorship: Grow and inspire a dedicated team of designers, fostering a culture of autonomy, accountability, and creative growth through regular mentorship and actionable feedback. Direct the balancing of cards, player progression, and the in-game economy. Monitor the live state of the game, leveraging player feedback and data analytics to optimize card balance, mitigate friction, and design highly engaging seasonal content. Drive Content Strategy: Partner with Arcane Rush leadership to define the content roadmap, pacing, and long-term expansion strategy for the live game. Leadership & Collaboration: Lead cross-functional working groups (art, engineering, QA, product) to execute high-quality content updates on schedule, holding implementation accountable to your core vision. 8+ years of professional game design experience, with 2+ years in a dedicated leadership role within the gaming industry. ~ Proven Track Record: Demonstrated success in driving content creation, staging expansions, and shipping features for successful free-to-play games. ~ Leadership Value: Ability to manage, grow, and inspire game design talent, championing design craft while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams. Strong technical background in card design, mathematical balancing, economy design, and/or live-ops systems architecture. Deep understanding of “games as service” and player psychology, especially through the lens of free-to-play CCG strategy and monetization. Excellent command of English (written and spoken) to collaborate effectively, drive designs forward, and align a diverse, international team. Documentation Champion: Produce clean, clear, and future-proof design documentation that serves as a single source of truth for engineering and production. Direct professional experience designing for trading card games (TCGs), collectible card games (CCGs), or autochess-like titles. Practical experience working in modern game engines (Unity, Unreal, etc.) and advanced data modeling tools. An active and highly knowledgeable player of competitive strategy games, CCGs, and mobile midcore games. UX/UI Awareness: Familiarity with best-in-class user experience and interface design principles. Proven ability to use player data to unlock product growth.
