Role Overview – Data Engineer, Data Platform

arenaflex is seeking a highly motivated Data Engineer to join our Data Platform team. In this role, you will design, build, and maintain sophisticated, low‑latency data pipelines that power analytics, machine learning, and product features across the organization. You will work closely with data architects, product managers, and engineers to translate business requirements into robust data solutions that enable rapid insight generation and scalable data processing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and optimize data models and storage solutions for arenaflex’s data lakehouse, ensuring high performance and low latency.
  • Implement streaming pipelines that capture real‑time events, transform them, and make them available for downstream analytics within seconds.
  • Build and maintain infrastructure‑as‑code for data services, enabling rapid provisioning of environments for data scientists and engineers.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to create self‑serve data platforms, reducing time‑to‑insight for internal stakeholders.
  • Develop and enhance data processing frameworks (e.g., Apache Spark, Flink) to support large‑scale workloads.
  • Mentor junior engineers, providing technical guidance and fostering a culture of best practices.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of APIs and services that expose data to product applications.
  • Drive continuous improvement of data reliability, monitoring, and alerting mechanisms.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies in cloud data engineering (AWS, GCP, Azure) and recommend strategic adoption.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of professional experience building data pipelines and data platforms at scale.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python, Scala, or Java.
  • Hands‑on experience with relational databases, data warehousing, and writing complex SQL queries.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, deploy, and manage APIs and micro‑services.
  • Solid understanding of data lakehouse architecture and experience with tools like Delta Lake, Iceberg, or similar.
  • Experience working with cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and infrastructure‑as‑code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation).
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to work independently in a remote‑first setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with streaming technologies such as Apache Kafka, Kinesis, or Pulsar.
  • Familiarity with container orchestration (Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Knowledge of machine learning data pipelines and feature stores.
  • Exposure to other cloud providers (Google Cloud Platform, Azure) and willingness to quickly learn new environments.
  • Contributions to open‑source projects or a strong personal portfolio of data engineering work.
  • Demonstrated mentorship experience and a passion for developing junior talent.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Technical Excellence: Deep expertise in data modeling, ETL/ELT processes, and performance tuning.
  • Collaboration: Ability to partner effectively with product, analytics, and engineering teams to deliver data solutions that meet business goals.
  • Communication: Clear articulation of complex technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Adaptability: Comfortable navigating a fast‑moving environment, embracing change, and iterating quickly.
  • Ownership: Proactive mindset with a focus on delivering end‑to‑end solutions and taking responsibility for production reliability.
  • Innovation: Curiosity to explore new tools, frameworks, and best practices that can give arenaflex a competitive edge.
