About the position Responsibilities The Public Health Specialist II will assist with collecting, analyzing, validating, and interpreting data reported to the New York State Department of Health via routine public health reporting. The Public Health Specialist II will assist with developing reports and summaries of data to highlight data quality, completeness, and conformance issues. The incumbent will support subject matter experts on improving and making more efficient respiratory disease surveillance activities. About Health Research, Inc. Work Location Expectations At HRI, the nature of hybrid and onsite work varies by position. Some roles require full onsite presence, while others allow a hybrid schedule. Managers determine the specific telecommuting expectations for each role based on operational needs and job responsibilities. If designated as hybrid, you will divide your time between working remotely and reporting onsite. Regardless of telecommuting status, all HRI employees must live within a reasonable commuting distance of their official work location and must reside in one of the following states New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, or Vermont.

Responsibilities

  • assist with developing reports and summaries of data to highlight data quality, completeness, and conformance issues
  • support subject matter experts on improving and making more efficient respiratory disease surveillance activities Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and one year of experience in a public health, human services, or health related program/organization; OR an Associate’s degree in a related field and three years of such experience; OR five years of related experience.
  • A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one year of experience.
  • Temporary grant funded position expected to last through 7/31/2026.
  • Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.
  • Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required.
  • Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • The selected candidate must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the official work location specified in the job posting and must also be located in or willing to relocate to one of the following states New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, or Massachusetts, prior to hire. Nice-to-haves
  • Experience with advanced programming tools such as SAS, R, Excel macros, and/or SQL.
  • Experience collecting, analyzing, validating, and/or interpreting surveillance data and systems.
  • Experience in data preparation, including merging, cleaning, and transforming datasets.
  • Experience or training in health informatics, especially laboratory or medical coding (e.g., LOINC, SNOMED, IDC-10).
  • Demonstrated experience proofreading or preparing professional documents or correspondence.
