Position Overview

We're seeking a talented and motivated Systems Software Engineer to join our Infrastructure & Frameworks team. In this role, you'll be responsible for building and maintaining the foundation upon which our AI models operate securely and efficiently. You'll work closely with other engineers and researchers to implement robust systems that support cutting-edge AI research and development.

This position is based in San Francisco, CA, and we operate on a hybrid work model with 3 days in the office per week. We also offer relocation assistance to new team members joining us from elsewhere.

Key Responsibilities

• Infrastructure Development: Design, build, and maintain scalable frameworks and infrastructure that support the deployment and operation of our AI models
• System Optimization: Enhance infrastructure performance for speed and efficiency through optimization of resource allocation, networking, and storage systems
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with researchers, engineers, and product teams to integrate infrastructure solutions into larger systems and support evolving research needs
• System Reliability: Investigate and resolve any issues that arise, ensuring infrastructure remains stable, reliable, and performing at peak efficiency
• Technology Evaluation: Assess and implement new tools, technologies, and methodologies to improve infrastructure capabilities
• Documentation: Create and maintain technical documentation for infrastructure systems and processes
• Innovation: Propose and develop solutions that advance our technical capabilities and research methodologies

Essential Qualifications

• Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field
• Programming Skills: Strong programming abilities in Python, C/C++, or another relevant programming language
• Systems Knowledge: Solid understanding of computer systems, networking, and operating system concepts
• Technical Tools Experience: Familiarity with containerization and virtualization technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, and VirtualBox
• Distributed Systems: Understanding of distributed systems architecture and concepts
• Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues
• Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with team members and documenting work

Preferred Qualifications

• Frameworks Programming: Experience in systems-level programming with a focus on virtualization, containerization, and sandboxing
• Cloud Platforms: Experience with major cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and their infrastructure services
• Automation: Knowledge of configuration management tools and infrastructure automation
• Research Environment: Experience in fast-paced, collaborative research environments
• Open Source Contributions: Active participation in open-source projects related to AI, infrastructure, or systems software
