The Opportunity: Shape the Future of Finance Data at arenaflex

arenaflex is seeking a talented and driven Senior Data Engineer to join our high-impact Finance Technology team. In this role, you will help design, build, and optimize the data infrastructure that powers financial reporting, compliance, and analytics for one of the most dynamic and rapidly growing enterprises in the world. You will be instrumental in constructing the next generation of self-service data transformation products, allowing stakeholders across the company to access, analyze, and act on financial data with unprecedented speed and confidence.

This is more than a job. It is an opportunity to work on a finance data system of truly global scale, contributing to the architecture, engineering, and operational excellence of a platform that influences business outcomes every single day. If you are passionate about building petabyte-scale solutions on AWS, applying modern big data techniques, and driving innovation in the finance domain, this is the role for you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Platform Design and Engineering: Design, implement, and support a robust platform that provides secure, governed access to massive financial data sets used across the enterprise.
  • Data Pipeline Development: Own the design, development, and ongoing maintenance of metrics, reports, analyses, and dashboards that drive key business decisions for finance leaders and stakeholders.
  • Best Practices in Reporting and Analytics: Champion industry best practices around data integrity, test design, validation, documentation, and analysis to ensure trust in every output.
  • Performance Tuning: Continuously tune application and query performance using profiling tools, SQL optimization, and architectural refinements to deliver sub-second insights at scale.
  • Root Cause Analysis: Analyze and resolve complex issues at their root, stepping back to understand the broader business and technical context before implementing durable solutions.
  • Data Asset Mastery: Learn, map, and understand the vast landscape of arenaflex data sources, knowing precisely when, how, and which datasets to leverage for specific business questions.
  • Innovation and Emerging Technology: Stay ahead of advances in big data technology, run pilots, and design data architectures that scale gracefully with exponential data growth on AWS.
  • Process Automation: Continuously improve reporting and analysis processes, automating repetitive tasks and simplifying self-service support for data consumers across the company.
  • Strategic Decision Support: Triage multiple possible courses of action in high-ambiguity environments, using a blend of quantitative analysis and strong business judgment to recommend the right path forward.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with finance business owners, analysts, scientists, and product teams to define key business questions and build data sets that answer them.

Essential Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
  • 3 or more years of hands-on experience in data engineering, with a proven track record of delivering production-grade data solutions.
  • Deep experience with data modeling, data warehousing concepts, and constructing reliable ETL pipelines at scale.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and the ability to write performant, complex queries against large data sets.
  • Solid understanding of enterprise-level data warehouse architecture across multiple systems, including RDBMS, columnar databases, and cloud-native platforms.
  • Expertise in the design, construction, management, and business application of large, complex data sets.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts to business audiences and vice versa.
  • A passion for learning new technologies and applying them quickly to deliver new capabilities or scale existing platforms.
  • Strong analytical skills and a detail-oriented mindset with a focus on data quality and integrity.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AWS technologies such as Redshift, S3, AWS Glue, EMR, Kinesis, Firehose, Lambda, and IAM roles and permissions.
  • Familiarity with non-relational databases and data stores, including item storage, document stores, key-value stores, graph databases, and column-family databases.
  • Experience working with petabyte-scale data and the unique engineering challenges that come with that scale.
  • Background in finance, accounting systems, or financial reporting platforms is a strong plus.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers and contributing to a culture of technical excellence.

Skills and Competencies for Success

Our ideal candidate is a curious, self-directed engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment and relishes the challenge of working with enormous transactional volumes and complex data ecosystems. You are energized by highly intricate business contexts that are often defined in real time, and you possess the rare ability to balance deep technical rigor with sharp business intuition.

  • Big Data Passion: A genuine love for working with massive data sets and the engineering problems they present.
  • Architectural Thinking: The ability to design efficient, flexible, extensible, and scalable ETL and reporting solutions.
  • Business Acumen: Strong business and communication skills that allow you to partner effectively with stakeholders and define the questions that matter most.
  • Resilience Under Pressure: Comfort operating in ambiguous, high-stakes situations and making data-informed decisions quickly.
  • Continuous Learning: A growth mindset that drives you to stay current with emerging technologies and apply them in creative ways.
  • Collaboration: A team-first attitude and the interpersonal skills to work closely with engineers, analysts, scientists, and business leaders alike.
