Role Overview – Research & Design Consultant (Remote)

We are seeking a highly motivated Research & Design Consultant to join our Network Planning team. In this remote, work‑from‑home position, you will partner with cross‑functional leaders to translate complex data sets into actionable insights that drive network optimization, fleet planning, and operational excellence. This role sits at the intersection of analytics, strategy, and communication, requiring both technical prowess and the ability to influence senior stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Network Planning, Commercial, and Operations teams to align on multi‑project initiatives and ensure data‑driven decision making across the organization.
  • Extract, clean, and analyze large‑scale schedule and performance data using SQL, Microsoft Access, Excel, Tableau, and Alteryx to uncover trends, profitability drivers, and growth opportunities.
  • Develop compelling, data‑rich presentations and visual storytelling assets for senior leadership, translating technical findings into clear business recommendations.
  • Lead end‑to‑end project cycles—from problem definition and data acquisition to solution design, testing, and implementation—independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Support the continuous improvement of network design models, connectivity frameworks, and scheduling algorithms, contributing to fleet planning, crew staffing, and airport capacity forecasts.
  • Provide strategic analysis of historical performance metrics, identifying patterns that inform future network performance and profitability.
  • Communicate insights and recommended actions to both technical and non‑technical audiences, tailoring messaging to the specific needs of each stakeholder group.
  • Mentor junior analysts, offering guidance on data manipulation techniques, visualization best practices, and effective storytelling.
  • Stay abreast of emerging analytics tools, industry trends, and best practices to continuously elevate the analytical capabilities of the team.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by leadership to support broader business objectives.

Essential Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required; a bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field is strongly preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 3‑5 years of professional experience in quantitative roles within the aviation industry or a similarly complex, data‑intensive environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in data extraction, transformation, and analysis using SQL, Alteryx, and advanced Excel functions.
  • Proficiency with data visualization platforms such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar tools, and the ability to craft clear, impactful PowerPoint decks.
  • Solid understanding of airline network planning concepts, fleet scheduling, revenue management, and operational performance metrics.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a proven track record of presenting complex analyses to senior leadership and influencing decision making.
  • Strong problem‑solving mindset, capable of navigating ambiguous situations, prioritizing multiple initiatives, and delivering results under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work autonomously, manage stakeholder expectations, and drive projects from inception to completion.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science).
  • Experience with statistical programming languages such as Python or R for advanced analytics and predictive modeling.
  • Familiarity with airline revenue management systems, crew scheduling software, or simulation tools.
  • Previous exposure to profit‑and‑loss analysis, cost‑benefit modeling, or business case development.
  • Certification in data analytics or business intelligence (e.g., Tableau Desktop Specialist, Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate).

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Analytical Acumen: Ability to dissect large, complex data sets, identify patterns, and translate findings into strategic recommendations.
  • Technical Proficiency: Mastery of SQL, Alteryx, Excel, Tableau, and PowerPoint; familiarity with data‑warehousing concepts and ETL processes.
  • Strategic Thinking: Understanding of how network design, fleet planning, and operational efficiency intersect to drive profitability.
  • Communication & Influence: Skilled at crafting narratives that resonate with both technical and executive audiences, and at persuading stakeholders to adopt data‑driven solutions.
  • Project Management: Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects, set realistic timelines, and deliver high‑quality outcomes.
  • Collaboration: Comfortable working across functional boundaries, building relationships with senior leaders, and fostering a team‑first environment.
  • Adaptability: Thrive in a fast‑changing, ambiguous environment, quickly learning new tools and methodologies as business needs evolve.
