As a remote‑first organization, arenaflex offers flexible work arrangements, a collaborative culture, and a commitment to continuous learning.
Why This Role Matters
In the rapidly evolving landscape of real‑world evidence (RWE), the ability to extract, clean, and analyze large, heterogeneous data sets is critical. As a Remote Part‑Time Real‑World Evidence Data Scientist, you will be at the heart of arenaflex’s Clinical Research team, turning raw health data into reliable evidence that drives drug development, health‑policy decisions, and patient‑centric care pathways. Your work will directly influence how new therapies are evaluated for safety, effectiveness, and value in real‑world settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Mine raw data collections from internal databases and licensed external platforms to create normalized, analysis‑ready patient cohorts.
- Collaborate with clinical research scientists, epidemiologists, and external partners to translate real‑world data (RWD) into robust real‑world evidence (RWE) for therapeutic area studies.
- Clean, transform, and store data in a curated data lake, ensuring compliance with data‑governance standards and patient privacy regulations.
- Perform advanced statistical and machine‑learning analyses (e.g., propensity‑score matching, survival analysis, time‑series modeling) to uncover insights on treatment patterns, outcomes, and cost‑effectiveness.
- Develop and maintain reproducible analytical pipelines using R, Python, or SQL, adhering to best practices for version control and documentation.
- Partner with cross‑functional teams to design and execute outcomes research studies, including protocol development, data extraction plans, and statistical analysis plans.
- Produce high‑quality dashboards, visualizations, and written reports for internal stakeholders and external sponsors, ensuring clarity and actionable recommendations.
- Evaluate new data sources and vendors, conducting data‑quality assessments to inform strategic acquisition decisions.
- Stay current with emerging methodologies in epidemiology, health economics, and AI‑driven analytics, and proactively share knowledge with the team.
Essential Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Statistics, Computer Science, Epidemiology, Bioinformatics, or related field).
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of hands‑on experience with R, Python, or SQL for data manipulation and statistical analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to design and execute reproducible quantitative analyses on large health‑care data sets.
- Solid understanding of statistical testing methods, including regression modeling, clustering, decision trees, unsupervised learning, and survival analysis.
- Experience handling big data from multiple sources (claims, EMR, registries, etc.) while maintaining data integrity and security.
- Familiarity with data‑visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Alteryx, Spotfire, or similar platforms.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex analytical results into clear, concise narratives for both technical and non‑technical audiences.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills
- Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in a relevant field.
- Expertise in EMR/Health‑IT systems, disease registries, and claims data structures.
- Knowledge of clinical terminology and ontologies (ICD‑9/10, SNOMED CT, Read Codes).
- Experience with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), ISO, MDD/MDR, or CFR compliance for real‑world evidence studies.
- Proficiency in advanced analytics techniques such as Bayesian modeling, sequential analysis, and causal inference.
- Exposure to AI/ML pipelines for predictive modeling and natural language processing of clinical notes.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment while maintaining strong collaboration with distributed teams.
Core Skills & Competencies
- Analytical Rigor: Ability to critically assess data quality, identify biases, and apply appropriate statistical corrections.
- Technical Proficiency: Mastery of data‑wrangling libraries (pandas, dplyr), statistical packages (statsmodels, survival), and database querying (SQL, NoSQL).
- Problem‑Solving: Creative approach to complex research questions, leveraging interdisciplinary knowledge.
- Communication: Clear storytelling through visualizations, executive summaries, and presentations.
- Compliance Awareness: Understanding of HIPAA, GDPR, and other privacy regulations governing patient data.
- Collaboration: Strong teamwork ethic, comfortable partnering with clinicians, data engineers, and external sponsors.
