Volunteer Advocate (Criminal Justice & Family Support)
Overview
Growing Beyond Bars Community Service is seeking dedicated Volunteer Advocates to support individuals and families affected by incarceration, reentry challenges, CPS involvement, family court matters, and community-based issues. Volunteer Advocates provide support, resource navigation, outreach, and encouragement while helping clients connect with appropriate services and educational resources. This position is ideal for students, aspiring advocates, criminal justice majors, social work professionals, and community members who want to make a positive impact. Duties
- Conduct intake and follow-up calls with clients
- Assist clients with organizing case-related documents and information
- Research community resources and referral opportunities
- Provide emotional support and encouragement
- Connect clients with housing, employment, educational, and reentry resources
- Participate in advocacy training and team meetings
- Maintain accurate records of client interactions
- Uphold confidentiality and professional standards
Preferred Qualifications
- Interest in criminal justice, social work, psychology, human services, or community outreach
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Reliable and professional demeanor
- Previous volunteer, mentoring, advocacy, or community service experience is helpful but not required
