Are you passionate about pushing the boundaries of technology and working on systems that impact billions of users worldwide? arenaflex is seeking a talented and motivated Staff Software Engineer to join our rapidly growing engineering division. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of cutting-edge infrastructure that powers high-performance computing (HPC) and machine learning (ML) workloads on one of the most advanced cloud platforms in the industry.

At arenaflex, we believe that innovation thrives when brilliant minds come together to solve complex challenges. Our engineering teams are at the forefront of distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking, data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, and user interface design. As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to work on critical projects that shape the future of technology while enjoying the flexibility of a remote work environment.

About the Role

As a Staff Software Engineer at arenaflex, you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, testing, deploying, maintaining, and improving software solutions that power our cloud infrastructure. You will be responsible for performing full-stack optimization for HPC and ML performance on our cloud platform, including kernel optimization, userspace communication libraries, and client-facing HPC and ML applications.

This position is ideal for engineers who are versatile, demonstrate leadership qualities, and are eager to tackle new challenges across the entire technology stack. You will manage project needs, deadlines, and deliverables while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative solutions. Whether you're an experienced professional or an entry-level candidate with a strong technical foundation, we welcome applicants who are passionate about technology and ready to make an impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform full-stack optimization for HPC and ML execution on arenaflex's cloud platform infrastructure, including kernel-level optimization and userspace communication libraries (such as MPI libraries, libfabric, and NCCL).
  • Develop and enhance HPC and ML solutions that leverage the scalability and reliability of arenaflex Cloud.
  • Design, build, test, deploy, and maintain robust software systems that handle data at massive scale.
  • Provide technical direction and mentorship to fellow engineers, helping to set engineering standards and best practices.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to define project requirements and deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Contribute to the development of wide-arriving infrastructure, distributed systems, and networking components.
  • Work on operating system tuning, packaging, and Linux device drivers to optimize system performance.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends, and apply new knowledge to drive innovation within the team.
  • Participate in code reviews, architectural discussions, and technical decision-making processes.
  • Switch teams and projects as needed to support the fast-paced growth and evolution of the business.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience in software development, with a strong foundation in data structures and algorithms.
  • 2 years of experience building and scaling wide-arriving infrastructure, distributed systems, or networks.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C, C++, Python, or Go.
  • Solid understanding of operating systems, networking concepts, and system architecture.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • Experience with C programming, device drivers, Linux Kernel, and Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA).
  • Experience with Linux device drivers, networking stack, and operating system tuning and packaging.
  • Experience with HPC and ML communications, including MPI, collective communication libraries, libfabric, and socket programming.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms, containerization technologies (such as Docker and Kubernetes), and microservices architecture.
  • Experience with machine learning frameworks and tools, such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar technologies.
  • Track record of contributing to open-source projects or publishing technical research.
  • Experience leading technical projects and mentoring junior engineers.

Skills and Competencies for Success

To excel in this role at arenaflex, you should possess a combination of technical expertise, creative thinking, and interpersonal skills. Our ideal candidate is someone who can balance deep technical work with strategic thinking, and who is comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. You should have a strong attention to detail, be able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, and demonstrate a commitment to delivering high-quality software solutions.

We value engineers who are curious, proactive, and willing to learn new technologies. The ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences is essential. You should also be comfortable working with distributed teams across different time zones and cultures.
