Student Recruiter

The University of Alberta is a community of knowledge seekers and change makers, and they are seeking a Student Recruiter to promote the university to prospective high school students across Canada. The role involves extensive travel, event planning, and engaging with students through various platforms to enhance recruitment efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Travels across Alberta and Canada targeting select high schools and special events to recruit prospective students via presentations, booth fairs and one-on-one advising
  • Delivers pre-tour presentations for prospective students, parents, and guests touring and visiting North Campus
  • Promotes the University of Alberta at various recruitment events to prospective high school students and their parents, including extensive public speaking
  • Works closely with all positions within the National Recruitment team, as well as the Student Recruitment department to address the strategic needs of the university, including offering event planning support, virtual initiatives support, and supporting the U of A Ambassador Program
  • Develops, grows and maintains strong relationships with key stakeholders, such as high school counsellors
  • Responds to prospective student inquiries through phone, e-mail, in-person advising, and virtual advising
  • Assists with research projects, compiles data, and creates evaluations around event effectiveness
  • Brainstorms and proposes new and innovative ideas to improve prospective student engagement for the purpose of recruitment
  • Evaluates attended recruitment initiatives by reporting prospective engagement, lead generation, number of publications provided, event attendance, and other meaningful notes describing the purpose and utility of the event for evaluation and future planning purposes
  • Drives the collection of leads from potential students and monitors their progression throughout the enrolment funnel
  • Assists prospective students in the application for admission process. Helps to troubleshoot admission challenges to ensure admissibility of the applicant pool. Works with applicants to encourage offer acceptance and yield, ultimately increasing enrolment at the University
  • Keeps admitted students engaged and continually conveys the value of attending the U of A; plans and implements yield initiatives accordingly
  • Performs other duties as required

Skills

  • Post-secondary diploma required
  • One to two years of related experience is an asset
  • Experience presenting to large groups
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with high attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, time management and customer service skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to maintain high levels of professionalism
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to lift up to 25 kgs
  • Must possess a valid Alberta Class 5 (non-GDL) driver's license
  • Must be able to provide a recent copy of a three-year driver's abstract with no more than six (6) demerits and/or two (2) moving violations within the last two years
  • University degree preferred
  • Knowledge of University of Alberta policies and procedures is an asset
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Products (Gmail, etc); knowledge of PeopleSoft and Slate is an asset
  • Fluency in French is an asset
