Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Application Development team to design and implement data strategies that enable scalable data pipelines and robust data models.
  • Architect logical and physical data models using industry‑best practices to ensure high data quality, performance, and reusability across multiple business domains.
  • Develop, refine, and maintain enterprise‑wide data models that support new and existing initiatives, adhering to corporate data‑governance standards.
  • Create data modeling patterns for relational, hierarchical, and NoSQL data stores, including Big Data platforms such as Hive, Hadoop, Cassandra, Snowflake, and Amazon Redshift.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of logical, physical, and semantic models, including metadata catalogs and data lineage.
  • Establish and enforce naming conventions, coding standards, and modeling guidelines to promote consistency across the data ecosystem.
  • Identify opportunities for model reuse and drive the creation of reusable data assets that accelerate project delivery.
  • Perform reverse‑engineering of physical models from existing data sets and SQL scripts to uncover hidden relationships and improve data integrity.
  • Validate data models against business requirements, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Troubleshoot complex data‑modeling challenges, propose pragmatic solutions, and guide architects, developers, and analysts through implementation hurdles.
  • Conduct performance reviews of existing data models, recommending optimizations that enhance query efficiency and reduce storage costs.
  • Collaborate with product owners to review new application designs, offering data‑modeling insights that shape scalable, future‑proof solutions.

Essential Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field (B.E., B.Tech, M.E., M.Tech, MBA).
  • Minimum 10 years of hands‑on experience in data warehousing and enterprise data modeling.
  • Deep understanding of data modeling techniques—3NF, dimensional (star/snowflake), layered, and hybrid approaches.
  • Proven experience designing and managing data warehouses exceeding 100 TB in size, including operational data stores (ODS).
  • Extensive work with MPP, NoSQL, and cloud‑native data platforms (e.g., Hadoop, Hive, Snowflake, Amazon Redshift, Google BigQuery, Azure Synapse).
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate business requirements into robust logical and physical models.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management abilities, capable of influencing cross‑functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • Master’s degree or advanced certifications in Data Architecture, Data Engineering, or related disciplines.
  • Experience in retail, e‑commerce, or large‑scale consumer‑goods environments, providing domain‑specific insight.
  • Hands‑on exposure to data‑governance frameworks, metadata management tools (e.g., Collibra, Alation), and data cataloging.
  • Familiarity with data‑mesh concepts and modern data‑fabric architectures.
  • Track record of mentoring junior data professionals and leading data‑modeling communities of practice.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Technical Proficiency: SQL, PL/SQL, T‑SQL, Spark SQL, Python/Scala for data manipulation, and familiarity with ETL/ELT tools (Informatica, Talend, dbt).
  • Modeling Tools: Erwin, IBM InfoSphere Data Architect, PowerDesigner, or open‑source alternatives.
  • Cloud Platforms: AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform—particularly data services such as Redshift, Snowflake, BigQuery, and Azure Synapse.
