Build the Future of Entertainment Data at arenaflex

Step into one of the most dynamic and influential roles in the global streaming industry. arenaflex, the world's leading internet entertainment service, is home to more than 220 million subscribers across 190+ countries, delivering television series, documentaries, and feature films in a wide variety of genres and languages. In November 2022, arenaflex expanded its reach even further with the launch of an ad-supported tier, bringing its acclaimed content to a broader audience through innovative, advertising-driven plans. This evolution created an entirely new data landscape — and that's where you come in.

We are seeking a curious, mature, and highly motivated Data Engineer to join our Promotions Data Engineering team. This team sits at the very heart of arenaflex's expanding advertising ecosystem, building the rich, connected, and easily accessible data foundations that inform critical business decisions across ad inventory, forecasting, targeting, and performance measurement. If you are passionate about the intersection of data, scale, and business impact, this opportunity is designed for you.

About the Role

As a Data Engineer on the Promotions Data Engineering team, you will be part of a larger data engineering organization within our Content and Studio Engineering organization. You will join a strong, collaborative engineering community that actively encourages both technical excellence and personal growth. Your team's primary focus is constructing the central data backbone for the advertising business — building models, pipelines, and analytical datasets that power decisions from executive strategy to machine learning feature engineering.

The scope of this work is growing rapidly. As arenaflex continues to evolve its ad-supported offerings, the data ecosystem you help shape will directly influence how the company understands and optimizes its advertising business. There are countless opportunities to make a meaningful, lasting impact on arenaflex's journey into the world of digital advertising.

What You'll Do

  • Design, build, and extend core data models that arenaflex's advertising teams rely on to answer critical business questions. You will collaborate with a team of skilled data engineers to envision how data elements from disparate sources should integrate, then bring that vision to life.
  • Take full ownership of key components of arenaflex's advertising data model. Partner with stakeholders to understand evolving needs, model tables using sound computer science and data warehousing best practices, and develop reliable data pipelines that ensure the timely delivery of high-quality data.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Analytics Engineers, Data Scientists, and Software Engineers to build intuitive datasets that serve both ad-hoc analysis and recurring reporting needs.
  • Establish best practices for the governance of datasets that contain sensitive information, ensuring that data privacy, security, and compliance are baked into the design from day one.
  • Build strong, collaborative relationships with data scientists, analytics engineers, and machine learning practitioners, becoming a trusted technical partner in the data lifecycle.
  • Write production-quality code that is readable, transparent, clean, and built to last — taking pride in craftsmanship and elegance.
  • Continuously optimize and modernize existing pipelines, identifying opportunities to improve performance, reliability, and scalability as the advertising business grows.

Who You Are

Beyond your technical capabilities, you bring a thoughtful, curious, and creative mindset to everything you do. The ideal candidate embodies the following qualities:

  • Intellectually humble and open-minded: You hold strong opinions loosely. You can argue your perspective effectively while genuinely listening to others and adapting when new information emerges.
  • A clear, concise communicator: You can demystify complex data issues and explain them in plain, accessible language to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Technically seasoned: You have a broad background and deep technical ability working with advertising data, and you understand how to engineer solutions for scale, security, and business impact.
  • A model of integrity: You exercise excellent judgment and can make difficult decisions without second-guessing.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity: You thrive in fast-changing contexts and can navigate uncertainty with confidence and poise.
  • Hands-on with production data pipelines: You have built and maintained production-grade pipelines, ideally using one or more distributed processing frameworks such as Spark, Hive, or Hadoop.
  • Deeply skilled in data modeling: You can design and implement data architectures that span multiple systems and serve diverse analytical needs.
  • A business partner: You flourish in a fast-paced environment and see yourself as a partner to the business, with a shared goal of pushing the company forward.
  • A craftsperson: You take pride in writing code that is understandable, transparent, and clean — and you care deeply about its quality.
  • Independent and self-directed: You love freedom and dislike being micromanaged. Given the right context, you are fully capable of self-direction.
  • Passionate about data quality: You care deeply about delivering effective, accurate, and trustworthy data to drive business decisions.

What You Bring (Ideal Qualifications)

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Solid understanding of advertising domains, data privacy, and regulatory frameworks such as GDPR.
  • Deep experience with data warehousing, data modeling, and data transformation — both for batch and streaming workloads.
  • Expert-level proficiency in writing complex SQL and Python; you can do it in your sleep.
  • A proven track record of building high-performance data pipelines and optimizing existing workflows to support new features and capabilities.
  • Hands-on experience with Big Data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, Pig, Hive, and Presto/Trino.
  • Experience ingesting and modeling data from application APIs.
  • Familiarity with team-based software development tools and best practices, including version control, code review, CI/CD, and agile methodologies.
