Our mission is to create a frictionless, inclusive financial ecosystem where every transaction is fast, safe, and simple.
As part of arenaflex’s rapidly expanding technology division, we are looking for visionary engineers who thrive in a collaborative, high‑impact environment. Our teams work on cutting‑edge distributed systems, cloud‑native platforms, and open‑source initiatives that shape the future of payments. If you are passionate about building resilient data pipelines, love solving complex scalability challenges, and want to see your work directly influence billions of transactions, this is the place for you.
Position Overview
We are hiring a Remote Data Engineer to design, develop, and operate high‑performance data processing services that power arenaflex’s card transaction ecosystem. This role sits at the intersection of data engineering, software architecture, and cloud operations, reporting directly to the Head of Architecture. You will partner with product managers, data scientists, and fellow engineers to deliver robust, low‑latency data solutions that enable real‑time fraud detection, analytics, and customer insights.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and implement distributed data processing pipelines on hybrid‑cloud environments, ensuring sub‑second latency and high availability.
- Design and develop reusable data services and APIs using Java or Scala, adhering to clean‑code principles and performance best practices.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to translate business requirements into technical specifications, creating detailed component and subsystem designs.
- Build proof‑of‑concept prototypes to evaluate emerging technologies such as Apache Kafka, Cassandra, and Elasticsearch for data ingestion and storage.
- Maintain and evolve existing data platforms, applying continuous improvement techniques and incorporating open‑source contributions where appropriate.
- Lead the adoption of DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift), and automated testing frameworks.
- Mentor junior engineers, provide technical guidance, and foster a culture of experimentation, learning, and knowledge sharing.
- Stay current with industry trends, emerging data architectures, and security standards to keep arenaflex’s data infrastructure ahead of the curve.
- Participate in on‑call rotations and incident response, ensuring rapid resolution of production issues while driving root‑cause analysis and preventive measures.
Essential Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of professional experience in designing and implementing data processing systems using Java or Scala.
- Data Engineering Skills: Hands‑on experience with data streaming platforms (e.g., Apache Kafka) and NoSQL databases such as Cassandra or Elasticsearch.
- Cloud & Containerization: Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and OpenShift for building and deploying scalable services.
- Algorithmic Thinking: Strong understanding of data structures, memory models, and concurrency patterns inherent to the JVM.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of presenting technical concepts to senior leadership and non‑technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications & Additional Skills
- Experience with distributed data processing frameworks such as Apache Flink or Spark.
- Proficiency in designing micro‑services architectures and building RESTful or gRPC APIs.
- Knowledge of continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, or CircleCI.
- Background in security best practices for data at rest and in transit, including encryption and access control.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical workshops, code reviews, and mentorship programs.
- Track record of contributing to open‑source projects or publishing technical articles.
Core Competencies for Success
- Problem Solving: Ability to dissect complex data challenges, propose elegant solutions, and iterate quickly.
- Collaboration: Comfortable working in a distributed, remote‑first environment with global teams across multiple time zones.
- Innovation Mindset: Eager to experiment with new technologies, challenge the status quo, and drive continuous improvement.
- Customer Focus: Understanding of how data services impact end‑user experiences and business outcomes.
- Resilience: Capacity to thrive under pressure, manage competing priorities, and maintain high standards of quality.
