We are seeking a highly motivated Remote Data Engineer to join the Data Engineering (DE) team within arenaflex’s Data Science & Innovation division. This full‑time, work‑from‑home position offers a competitive hourly rate of $27 and the flexibility to work from anywhere in the United States. As a Data Engineer, you will design, build, and maintain robust data pipelines that feed critical analytics and machine‑learning models across our media, parks, and sports businesses. You will collaborate with data scientists, product managers, and software engineers to translate business requirements into scalable data solutions that drive strategic decision‑making.
Key Responsibilities
- Gather and translate business and technical data requirements into clear, actionable specifications.
- Design, develop, and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines using SQL (Snowflake, PostgreSQL) and Python, ensuring data quality, reliability, and performance.
- Implement data validation, auditing, and monitoring frameworks to detect anomalies and guarantee data integrity.
- Build and manage data models, schemas, and tables that support analytical workloads and machine‑learning pipelines.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to integrate data from diverse sources, including on‑premise systems, cloud services, and third‑party APIs.
- Optimize data workflows for cost‑efficiency and scalability on cloud platforms such as AWS, leveraging services like S3, Redshift, and Glue.
- Develop and maintain automated job schedulers (e.g., Airflow, Prefect) to orchestrate complex data pipelines.
- Participate in code reviews, version control (GitLab/GitHub), and DevOps practices to ensure clean, maintainable code.
- Containerize data processing components using Docker and support multi‑environment deployments (Dev, QA, Production).
- Document data lineage, architecture diagrams, and operational runbooks for knowledge sharing across the organization.
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
- Minimum 2 years of hands‑on experience building and supporting ELT/ETL pipelines in a production environment.
- Proficiency in SQL (Snowflake, PostgreSQL) and Python for data manipulation and scripting.
- Experience with cloud‑based data warehouses (Snowflake, Databricks, Redshift) and familiarity with cloud architecture concepts.
- Solid understanding of relational database design, data modeling, and data warehousing best practices.
- Hands‑on experience with Docker and container orchestration for reproducible environments.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multi‑environment setup (development, QA, production) and implement CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong analytical mindset with the ability to troubleshoot complex data issues and propose effective solutions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience handling large‑scale datasets (terabytes to petabytes) and high‑throughput data pipelines.
- Knowledge of AWS services (S3, Lambda, Glue, Athena) and cloud‑native data engineering patterns.
- Familiarity with GitLab/GitHub for source control, branching strategies, and pull‑request workflows.
- Exposure to workflow orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow, Prefect, or Dagster.
- Experience with data visualization tools (Looker, Tableau, Power BI) to understand downstream analytics needs.
- Prior work in the entertainment, media, or sports industry, providing context for business‑specific data challenges.
Core Skills & Competencies
- Problem‑Solving: Ability to dissect ambiguous business problems, propose data‑centric solutions, and iterate quickly.
- Communication: Clear written and verbal communication to convey technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
- Collaboration: Team‑player mindset, comfortable partnering with data scientists, product owners, and engineering leads.
- Attention to Detail: Rigorous approach to data validation, documentation, and testing.
- Adaptability: Thrive in a fast‑paced, ever‑changing environment where priorities shift based on business impact.
