The Learning Consultant is the bridge between instructional content and student success. By delivering personalized support, facilitating collaborative study experiences, and championing evidence‑based learning strategies, you will directly influence retention rates, graduation outcomes, and the overall educational experience of countless learners. Position Overview This full‑time, remote‑eligible position is based at the University Center, MI, but offers flexibility to work from home or on‑site as needed. The successful candidate will possess deep content expertise in at least two STEM disciplines (Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Health Sciences, Mathematics, or Physics) and will demonstrate a passion for empowering students through tailored tutoring, workshop facilitation, and strategic academic coaching.

Key Responsibilities

Direct Learning Support (Student‑Centric Coaching)

  • Provide one‑on‑one academic tutoring via in‑person, video‑conference (Zoom), phone, or email, focusing on content mastery, critical thinking, and metacognitive skill development.
  • Diagnose individual learning gaps, recommend personalized study plans, and teach test‑taking strategies that align with course objectives.
  • Track student progress using TracCloud, documenting session outcomes, goals set, and follow‑up actions to ensure continuity of support.
  • Offer flexible scheduling—including evenings and weekends—to accommodate students’ class and work commitments, especially during peak semesters.

Group Facilitation & Peer‑Learning (Collaborative Environments)

  • Design and lead study groups, review sessions, and workshop series that promote peer‑to‑peer interaction, collaborative problem‑solving, and shared mastery of challenging topics.
  • Integrate active‑learning techniques, such as case‑based discussions, think‑pair‑share, and real‑world problem scenarios, to deepen conceptual understanding.
  • Utilize learning technologies (e.g., interactive whiteboards, polling tools, breakout rooms) to create dynamic virtual classrooms that mirror the energy of a physical study hall.
  • Gather feedback from participants, assess group effectiveness, and iterate on instructional design to continuously improve outcomes.

Indirect Learning Support (Curriculum Enhancement & Resource Development)

  • Develop supplemental instructional materials—including handouts, video tutorials, resource lists, and quick‑reference guides—tailored to the distinct needs of Delta College students.
  • Collaborate with faculty and the Teaching & Learning Center to embed support services within courses (e.g., Supplemental Learning Assistance, SLA) and align tutoring objectives with course outcomes.
  • Lead professional development sessions for student‑employees and fellow Learning Consultants, sharing best practices in tutoring, adult learning theory, and technology integration.
  • Participate in data‑driven assessment initiatives, contributing to departmental reports that measure the impact of learning support on student achievement.

Administrative & Outreach Duties (Campus Integration)

  • Maintain accurate appointment calendars, respond promptly to student inquiries, and manage outreach campaigns to raise awareness of tutoring services.
  • Build and nurture relationships with faculty, academic advisors, and campus support services to ensure seamless referrals and holistic student assistance.
  • Represent the Learning Consultant role in departmental, divisional, and institution‑wide meetings, sharing insights and advocating for student‑centered policies.
  • Identify and refer students to specialized campus resources (e.g., counseling, disability services, career development) when appropriate.
