[Remote] Financial Controller

Vaco by Highspring is a rapidly growing international professional services organization seeking an experienced Controller to lead its accounting and financial operations function. This role involves overseeing all accounting operations, ensuring financial accuracy and compliance, and providing leadership to a dispersed accounting team while supporting strategic growth initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll support, and general ledger activities
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of accounting professionals across multiple locations
• Ensure timely and accurate completion of month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
• Monitor cash flow, working capital, and key financial metrics to support organizational performance and liquidity
• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports
• Analyze financial results and provide meaningful insights to leadership
• Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies
• Partner with finance leadership to support annual budgeting and ongoing forecasting processes
• Assist in developing financial plans that align with organizational objectives and growth initiatives
• Monitor performance against budget and identify areas of risk or opportunity
• Establish, maintain, and continuously improve internal control processes
• Ensure appropriate safeguards are in place to protect company assets and financial data
• Coordinate internal and external audits and address any findings or recommendations
• Collaborate with external advisors to ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and international tax requirements
• Support tax filings, audits, and regulatory examinations as needed
• Partner with executive leadership to develop and implement financial strategies that support business growth
• Evaluate existing financial processes and systems, identifying opportunities for automation and efficiency improvements
• Support system implementations and enhancements when applicable
• Identify financial and operational risks and recommend mitigation strategies
• Assist in maintaining insurance programs and risk management initiatives
• Develop and maintain policies and procedures that support sound financial governance

Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• CPA or equivalent professional certification needed
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Controller or senior accounting leadership role
• Demonstrated success leading and developing accounting teams
• Experience managing multi-entity and international accounting environments, including foreign currency considerations
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls
• Experience working with ERP systems and financial reporting tools
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to partner effectively across all levels of the organization
• Prior experience within a professional services, consulting, or project-based business environment preferred
