Role Overview

The Senior Remote Content Distribution Engineer will join arenaflex’s Media Engineering team as a pivotal member of the Distribution Engineering group. In this role you will design, implement, and operate the CDN (Content Delivery Network) infrastructure that powers our streaming services, live‑sport platforms, and on‑demand video libraries. You will work closely with product, engineering, and operations teams to ensure that content is delivered with maximum reliability, performance, and security at global scale. This is a fully remote position, offering the flexibility to work from any location in the United States while collaborating with a world‑class team of engineers, architects, and product innovators.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain highly available CDN architectures that support arenaflex’s flagship streaming services, including arenaflex+, Hulu+, and live‑sport feeds.
  • Manage and optimize OpenCache services across multiple ISP partners worldwide, ensuring low latency and high throughput for end‑users.
  • Develop and execute performance monitoring strategies, collaborating with analytics and performance engineering teams to identify bottlenecks and drive continuous improvement.
  • Own day‑to‑day operational tasks for the arenaflex Distribution Network, including capacity planning, incident response, and change management.
  • Lead tooling initiatives that integrate third‑party CDN providers into a unified control plane, streamlining configuration, deployment, and observability.
  • Serve as the primary technical liaison for CDN support, coordinating with vendor support teams to resolve incidents quickly and efficiently.
  • Troubleshoot complex networking and caching issues in partnership with product and engineering groups, providing root‑cause analysis and actionable remediation.
  • Provide Level‑3 on‑call support for critical incidents, delivering rapid diagnosis, escalation, and post‑mortem documentation.
  • Collaborate with security teams to enforce SSL/TLS best practices, ensuring data integrity and privacy across all distribution channels.
  • Contribute to the development of automation scripts and infrastructure‑as‑code templates (Ansible, AWX) that standardize CDN provisioning and lifecycle management.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands‑on experience managing storage and distribution solutions, preferably within a Content Distribution Organization environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in CDN provider architectures and operational models, including configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of HTTP/DNS/Web protocols, caching mechanisms, and load‑balancing technologies (NGINX, HAProxy).
  • Proficiency with cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP, and familiarity with cloud‑native networking services.
  • Programming/scripting skills in Python or comparable languages for automation and tooling development.
  • Experience with configuration management tools (Ansible, AWX) and infrastructure‑as‑code practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Passion for problem‑solving, a proactive attitude toward learning, and a collaborative mindset.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in a relevant field.
  • Hands‑on experience with large‑scale streaming architectures and media‑specific protocols (e.g., MPEG‑DASH, HLS).
  • Prior work in a high‑traffic, consumer‑facing media organization or a similar fast‑paced technology environment.
  • Familiarity with security standards such as SSL/TLS certificates, cipher suites, and PKI management.
  • Experience contributing to open‑source CDN projects or community initiatives.
  • Certifications related to cloud (AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Google Cloud Professional Engineer) or networking (CCNA, CCNP).

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Technical Acumen: Deep knowledge of CDN design patterns, edge caching, and global traffic routing.
  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to interpret performance metrics, conduct root‑cause analysis, and propose data‑driven optimizations.
  • Collaboration: Proven track record of working cross‑functionally with product, engineering, security, and vendor teams.
  • Automation Mindset: Strong scripting abilities and experience with CI/CD pipelines to reduce manual operational overhead.
  • Customer Focus: Commitment to delivering a flawless end‑user experience, understanding the impact of latency and reliability on viewer satisfaction.
  • Adaptability: Comfort operating in a dynamic environment where priorities shift rapidly and new technologies emerge.
