Daikin America, Inc is seeking a Business Development Leader for Advanced Materials to drive growth in high performance polymer composites across various industries. The role involves identifying and developing new business opportunities, engaging with customers, and leading cross-functional teams to ensure successful product commercialization and revenue generation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute go-to-market strategy across target industries
  • Identify high-growth applications and build market intelligence frameworks, competitive benchmarking, and pricing strategy
  • Identify, and engage OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers, value chain partners in target industry
  • Lead technical-commercial discussions with customers to align material capabilities with application requirements
  • Collaborate with engineering team to define applications specific material solutions
  • Develop value propositions and differentiation strategies versus competing materials
  • Own and deliver revenue targets for advanced materials portfolio
  • Monitor KPIs including pipeline conversion, customer acquisition, and market penetration
  • Act as a commercial interface between engineering, manufacturing and customers
  • Provide market feedback to guide product development roadmap and lead internal alignments on priorities
  • Create financial models, budgets, and forecasts for new business initiatives and oversee their financial performance
  • Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with new opportunities and adapt strategies as needed
  • Additional assignments as deemed necessary by management

Skills

  • College degree – Materials Science, Polymer Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related field from accredited University
  • 10+ years of experience in business development or technical sales in advanced materials or specialty polymers
  • 5+ years of experience in high-performance polymers such as PEEK/PEKK/PEK/PEI/PI/PPS etc, and their compounds and/or applications
  • 5+ years of experience in Aerospace, Medical device, Mobility, Semiconductor, E&E or CPI/Energy
  • 5+ years of demonstrated revenue generation through new business development
  • Technical & Commercial Acumen: Ability to translate technical performance into customer value proposition. Familiarity with polymer manufacturing processes
  • Market Research: Proficiency in market research techniques to identify emerging trends, opportunities, and potential gaps in the market or target applications
  • Strategic Planning: Strong strategic thinking and planning skills to develop and execute business development strategies aligned with the organization's goals
  • Customer-Centric Mindset: Deep understanding of customer applications and pain points. Exceptional relationship-building skills to establish and maintain partnerships with key stakeholders, potential clients, and industry influencers
  • Financial Insight: Ability to assess the financial viability of new opportunities, including financial modeling, budgeting, and risk assessment
  • Project Management: Proficiency in project management methodologies to oversee the end-to-end development of new business ventures and coordinate team efforts. Ability to recommend go/no go decisions for programs
  • Commercial launch of new Products: Proficient in leading the cross functional team to complete all market-facing product commercialization items and delivering first revenues before transition of the account to sales for run and maintain
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to convey the ideas, negotiate deals, and present proposals effectively
  • Innovative Thinking: A creative mindset to identify disruptive business models, product ideas, and technology innovations
  • Leadership & Influence: Demonstrated leadership abilities to manage cross-functional teams and motivate them towards achieving shared objectives
  • Adaptability: Flexibility and adaptability to navigate an evolving business environment and pivot strategies as needed
  • Data Analysis: Proficiency in data analysis tools and techniques to make data-driven decisions and track the progress of new business initiatives. Ability to create detailed power point decks for customers and internal presentations
