[Remote] Director of Project Controls and Finance
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Coquí Power is a Puerto Rico-based development firm focused on energy infrastructure. They are seeking an experienced Director of Project Controls and Finance to manage project execution, capital deployment, and financial reporting for utility-scale solar projects.
Responsibilities
- Building and maintaining the project budget
- Tracking actual spend vs. forecast
- Monitoring EPC costs, interconnection costs, equipment procurement, contingencies, and soft costs
- Managing draw schedules and cash flow timing
- Identifying cost overruns and financial risks early
- Working with lenders, tax equity investors, sponsors, and legal teams
- Managing construction loan draws and compliance requirements
- Coordinating diligence materials for financing parties
- Tracking covenants, reporting obligations, and milestone requirements
- Supporting financial close processes
- Reviewing EPC invoices and payment applications
- Coordinating approvals for vendor payments
- Ensuring invoices align with contract terms and completed milestones
- Managing change orders from a financial perspective
- Aligning construction progress with capital deployment timelines
- Making sure procurement, construction, and financing timelines stay synchronized
- Updating financial models based on schedule changes or delays
- Producing reports for executives, lenders, investors, and development partners
- Tracking KPIs such as: budget variance, burn rate, contingency usage, schedule adherence, projected COD (Commercial Operation Date)
- Participating in project meetings with development, engineering, EPC, and finance teams
- Identifying risks that could impact project economics: tariff changes, supply chain delays, labor shortages, interconnection delays, permitting issues
- Modeling financial impacts and mitigation strategies
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, Engineering, or a related field required
- 7–12+ years of experience in renewable energy finance, infrastructure finance, project finance, private equity, investment banking, asset management, or a related field
- Demonstrated experience supporting utility-scale solar and/or renewable energy projects through development, construction, financing, and operational phases
- Strong understanding of tax equity structures, including partnership flip structures, sale-leasebacks, and transferability considerations
- Deep familiarity with ITC/PTC qualification requirements, safe harbor rules, prevailing wage and apprenticeship requirements, and other renewable energy incentive frameworks
- Experience managing construction financing processes, including debt draw requests, lender compliance, project budgets, sources and uses, and financial reporting
- Strong financial modeling and analytical capabilities, including experience with project finance models, portfolio reporting, and acquisition underwriting
- Experience coordinating across multiple stakeholders, including developers, EPC contractors, lenders, investors, procurement teams, legal counsel, accounting, and treasury functions
- Exceptional organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial reporting tools; familiarity with ERP systems, project controls software, and data visualization tools is a plus
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing materials for lenders, investors, executives, and investment committees
- Highly detail-oriented with strong commercial judgment and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to operate both strategically and tactically in a growing, entrepreneurial environment
- MBA, CFA, CPA, or other advanced financial designation preferred
