arenaflex is a global leader in entertainment, media, and technology, delivering unforgettable experiences to millions of fans worldwide. With a legacy of innovation and a forward‑thinking mindset, arenaflex continuously invests in cutting‑edge data platforms that power storytelling, audience engagement, and operational excellence. As a remote‑first organization, arenaflex empowers its talent to work from anywhere in the United States while staying deeply connected to a vibrant, collaborative culture that values curiosity, creativity, and impact.

Why This Role Matters

Our Item Execution and Instrumentation Group is the engine that transforms raw data into actionable insights across the entire product lifecycle—from content ingestion and onboarding to real‑time analytics and strategic reporting. As a Senior Data Engineer, you will design, build, and scale data pipelines that enable arenaflex’s brands to make data‑driven decisions faster, smarter, and more reliably. Your work will directly influence the performance of high‑visibility products, support cross‑functional teams, and help shape the future of data‑centric storytelling.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect & Develop Scalable Data Solutions: Design, implement, and maintain robust data pipelines in Scala, Python, and Spark that process terabytes of information daily while meeting stringent SLA requirements.
  • Lakehouse Engineering: Lead the migration toward a Lakehouse‑driven data platform, collaborating with product owners and data scientists to create unified, high‑performance data stores using Zenvora Lake, Snowflake, and Databricks.
  • ETL & ELT Automation: Build end‑to‑end ETL/ELT workflows in both cloud (AWS) and hybrid environments, ensuring data quality, lineage, and governance throughout the pipeline.
  • Cross‑Team Collaboration: Partner with Data Product Managers, Data Architects, and Analytics Engineers to translate business requirements into technical specifications and deliver production‑grade solutions.
  • Documentation & Best Practices: Maintain comprehensive documentation, data dictionaries, and operational runbooks to support data stewardship and compliance initiatives.
  • Performance Tuning & Optimization: Continuously monitor, profile, and optimize query performance, storage costs, and resource utilization to keep the platform cost‑effective and responsive.
  • Agile Participation: Actively contribute to Scrum ceremonies, sprint planning, and retrospectives, championing continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within the team.
  • Problem Solving & Innovation: Diagnose complex data issues, propose creative solutions, and drive automation opportunities that reduce manual effort and accelerate time‑to‑insight.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with internal customers, gathering feedback to refine data products and ensure alignment with strategic objectives.

Essential Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent professional experience).
  • Technical Expertise: Proven experience with large‑scale data processing frameworks such as Spark, Flink, or Databricks, and strong command of Scala and Python programming languages.
  • SQL Mastery: Deep understanding of relational databases, ability to write complex, performant SQL queries, and experience with MPP or cloud data warehouses (Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery, etc.).
  • Cloud Proficiency: Hands‑on experience with AWS services (S3, EMR, EC2, Lambda) and familiarity with infrastructure‑as‑code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation).
  • Data Modeling & Warehousing: Demonstrated knowledge of data modeling concepts, dimensional modeling, and best practices for data lake and lakehouse architectures.
  • Agile Methodologies: Experience working in Scrum or Kanban environments, with a track record of delivering iterative value in fast‑paced settings.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication, capable of translating technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders and fostering collaborative relationships.

Preferred Qualifications & Additional Skills

  • Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in a quantitative field.
  • Experience with streaming technologies such as Kafka, Kinesis, or Pulsar.
  • Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines for data workloads.
  • Exposure to machine learning pipelines and feature engineering workflows.
  • Certifications in AWS (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect) or Snowflake.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor junior engineers and lead technical design reviews.

Core Competencies for Success

  • Analytical Mindset: Strong algorithmic thinking and problem‑solving abilities, enabling you to dissect complex data challenges and devise elegant solutions.
  • Detail Orientation: Commitment to data quality, documentation, and reproducibility, ensuring that downstream consumers trust the data they receive.
  • Collaboration: Ability to work effectively across product, analytics, and engineering teams, building consensus and driving shared outcomes.
  • Adaptability: Comfort with evolving technology stacks, rapid prototyping, and shifting priorities in a dynamic entertainment environment.
  • Customer‑Centric Focus: Understanding of how data products impact internal customers (e.g., content creators, marketing analysts) and a drive to deliver measurable business value.
