About the position The New Graduate Registered Nurse (RN) position in the GI Surgery & Surgical Oncology Acute Care unit at UNC Medical Center offers a unique opportunity for recent nursing graduates to begin their careers in a supportive and dynamic environment. Responsibilities • Participates in identifying and meeting learning needs of self and patients. , • Identifies expected patient outcomes and seeks guidance in revising care plans as needed. , • Demonstrates competence in caring for patients with complex problems, including physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects of care. , • Develops goals for professional growth and participates in unit goals and performance improvement activities. , • Recognizes data from complex situations to determine priorities for care and anticipates discharge needs. , • Collaborates with patients and families to prepare or update the plan of care, addressing cultural and ethnic issues. , • Reads relevant journals and brings ideas to the staff for assessment of applicability. Requirements • RN License in North Carolina by the first day of employment. , • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification. , • Graduation from a school of professional nursing. , • No prior experience required, suitable for new graduates. Nice-to-haves • Master's degree in Nursing. , • Bachelor's degree in Nursing or Bachelor of Science in Nursing. , • Experience with discharge planning and Foley catheter care.
