Senior Product Designer - Expansion

Remote · USA Full-time New today

In 1954, Eero Saarinen designed a bank office with glass walls, no offices, and a completely open floor plan in Columbus, Indiana. It was surrounded by trees; the furniture was made by Herman Miller; the lobby flooring was thick, rustic brick. It was built with transparency and community at its core.

Since then, a lot of things have happened—Saarinen’s branch is now a conference center, people increasingly live on the internet, and it’s hard to think of a single financial institution that still applies design thinking to their company.

Mercury is on a mission to defy those expectations. We’re a financial technology company that helps startups spend less time banking* and more time building. We believe that the key to our success revolves around thoughtful design and we’re looking to add a design lead to our Expansion Organization, to define product strategy for the org, support two designers on that team, help the team grow, and own design work whenever needed. You’ll be a key part of a team whose work is massively impactful to both our external customers and internal teams.

Our design team consists of 30+ people who love to solve complex problems through design, but are equally passionate about cultivating, guiding, and inspiring each other through their work to foster a collaborative environment of experimentation and innovation.

*Mercury is a financial technology company, not a bank. Banking services provided by Choice Financial Group, Column N.A., and Evolve Bank & Trust, Members FDIC.

In this role, you'll:

  • Design end-to-end experiences for Mercury's tax compliance tools, with initial focus on 1099 reporting
  • Create cohesive user journeys across multiple surfaces (compliance workflows, tax document collection, reporting dashboards)
  • Partner closely with executives, product, and engineering to shape product strategy and execution
  • Drive and maintain high standards for interaction and visual design
  • Help establish design patterns that scale across Mercury's compliance and tax products
  • Transform complex regulatory requirements into intuitive user experiences

You might be a great fit if:

  • You have 8+ years of product design experience, with significant work on complex financial or enterprise products
  • You excel at breaking down ambiguous problems and driving clarity through design
  • You have experience designing systems that work together seamlessly
  • You can lead projects independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional partners
  • You have strong interaction and visual design skills, with attention to detail and craft
  • You're passionate about creating intuitive experiences for complex workflows
  • You have experience with tax, compliance, or regulatory products (bonus)

The total rewards package at Mercury includes base salary, equity (stock options), and benefits.

US employees (any location): $180,100 – $211,900

Canadian employees (any location): $163,900 – $192,800 CAD
