Physician Services Coding Specialist

JOB SUMMARY The Physician Services Coding Specialist plays a crucial role in accurately coding physician charges across various specialties, including Emergency Medicine and Surgical encounters. This position involves assigning ICD-9, CPT-4, and HCPC codes based on detailed medical record documentation. A successful candidate must possess a deep understanding of insurance processes, denial issues, and compliance regulations while offering support and guidance to team members. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Accurately assign ICD-9, CPT-4, and HCPC codes from medical documentation and apply appropriate modifiers.
  • Effectively resolve claim edits and support the denial management process as needed.
  • Meet and maintain productivity standards and quality goals set by coding leadership.
  • Aim for a coding quality accuracy rate of at least 95.5%.
  • Mentor new employees and facilitate their training.
  • Ensure all assignments are completed ahead of monthly closure dates.
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy, and coding principles.
  • Possess in-depth understanding of third-party reimbursement regulations and billing practices.
  • Conduct detailed reviews of documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Navigate complex compliance issues with appropriate coding and compliance resources.
  • Exhibit a keen eye for detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Utilize knowledge of CCI edits and LCDs to apply regulations correctly in coding scenarios.
  • Uphold high ethical standards, display professionalism, and show a commitment to ongoing learning.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality in all aspects of work.
  • Perform other related tasks as required.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • Vocational or technical education beyond high school.
  • A minimum of 3 years of coding experience in relevant specialties.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Required: AHIMA or AAPC certifications. AAPC Specialty certifications are preferred.

  • Hourly Pay: $20.51 - $30.77, based on location, qualifications, and experience.
  • Potential signing bonuses for eligible new hires.
