Assistant HVAC Technician - Part Time

Job Title: Assistant HVAC Technician - Part Time Position Number: 977474 Department: Facilities Management Salary: $14,600 Job Summary/Description: Under general supervision, performs skilled mechanical work related to the operation, maintenance, and repair of the University’s HVAC and Central Plant equipment. Assistant HVAC Technician works under the guidance of the Lead HVAC/Controls Technician in corrective and preventative maintenance of HVAC and Central Plant equipment. Typical Duties/Job Duties:

• Lubricates and cleans mechanical parts, as well as changes air filters on equipment.
• Participates in repair and maintenance of HVAC, refrigeration and related mechanical equipment with difficult or special problems.
• Keeps Lead HVAC/Controls Technician informed of equipment status, communicates with Facilities Management personnel, faculty, staff and contractors and attends trainings, seminars, and other meetings as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of the principles and practices of HVAC systems maintenance.
• Good communication skills.
• Knowledge of environmental requirements related to building maintenance.
• Demonstrate initiative and perform quality work in a busy, multi-task environment.
• Ability to read and understand complex manuals and diagrams.
• Must be able to adjust to changing priorities.
• Ability to operate maintenance vehicles, industrial hand and power tools, welder, personnel lifts, fork lift, computers, sheet metal fabrication, equipment, software, fax, copier, and calculators.

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED certification required. 3 years HVAC experience Technician type I or higher. Refrigeration EFA approved certification is required. Technical school training in HVAC or related systems preferred. Must have a valid Texas driver’s license and have a driving record acceptable to the University’s insurance company.
