Professional Land Surveyor

Summary

TERRA Engineering is looking for a licensed Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) in our Peoria, IL office. This person is responsible for performing and overseeing surveying functions, and will perform site surveys, topographic mapping, and roadway and boundary surveys for public and private clients. Essential Functions

• Perform topographic surveys and transfer data into a compatible format for plotting using AutoCAD or Microstation (OpenRoads Designer)
• Preparation of base maps for projects
• Responsible for preparation of right-of-way plats and legal descriptions
• Research of previous survey evidence, maps, deeds, physical evidence, and other records to obtain data needed for surveys
• Maintain accurate notes, records, and sketches to describe and certify work performed. Maintain field book of project survey work completed.
• Communicate directly with various staff to ensure that plans and projects are completed according to the required priorities
• Communicate with clients and landowners on behalf of the company
• Preparation of project scope of work and estimating surveying hours/fees
• Perform Quality Assurance/Quality Control procedures for project work
• Provide mentorship and training to surveying staff
• Exercise judgment in the field regarding safety, operations, and technical expertise to meet field conditions
• Performs other duties as required by Department Managers

Education/Experience/Skills

• Professional Land Surveyor licensure in Illinois is required
• Knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, and Land Development software
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel
• Ability to use all applicable field equipment, including GPS, robotic total stations, data collectors, and automatic and digital levels
• Ability to perform physical activities including ability to stoop, crouch, crawl, lift 25-30 pounds several times a day
