About arenaflex

arenaflex is a global entertainment and technology leader, serving more than 230 million members across 190+ countries. With a rapidly expanding portfolio that now includes a subscription‑based ad‑supported tier, immersive gaming experiences, and live streaming, arenaflex is at the forefront of digital media innovation. This growth has dramatically increased the scale and complexity of its internal data ecosystem, creating a unique opportunity for data professionals to shape the future of privacy‑first data engineering on a worldwide stage.

Why This Role Matters

At arenaflex, data is the lifeblood of every product decision, from personalized recommendations to content licensing. Protecting that data—and doing so in compliance with a patchwork of international privacy regulations—is a strategic imperative. As a Data Engineer (L4) – Privacy, you will be a key architect of the data pipelines that enable secure, compliant, and high‑performance data processing across the organization. Your work will directly influence how arenaflex safeguards member information while delivering the seamless experiences that keep millions of users engaged every day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain robust, scalable data pipelines that ingest, transform, and store both structured and unstructured data using technologies such as Flink, Kafka, Hive, and Flash.
  • Develop and enforce privacy‑by‑design principles throughout the data lifecycle, ensuring that personal data is handled in accordance with GDPR, CCPA, and other regional regulations.
  • Collaborate closely with the Security Architecture team to translate product requirements into data models that support risk mitigation and auditability.
  • Write clean, production‑ready code in Java, Python, or Scala, applying best‑in‑class software engineering practices (code reviews, unit testing, CI/CD).
  • Implement advanced SQL queries and data‑validation routines to guarantee data integrity and consistency across massive datasets.
  • Continuously monitor, profile, and optimize pipeline performance, reducing latency and cost while maintaining strict security standards.
  • Participate in cross‑functional incident response drills, providing data‑engineer expertise to quickly isolate and remediate privacy‑related issues.
  • Mentor junior engineers, share knowledge through internal tech talks, and contribute to arenaflex’s public engineering blog.
  • Stay ahead of emerging data‑privacy technologies and regulatory changes, proactively recommending enhancements to the data platform.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience building data pipelines or data‑engineering solutions at scale.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language—Java, Python, or Scala—and a solid grasp of object‑oriented design.
  • Hands‑on experience with large‑scale data processing frameworks (e.g., Flink, Spark, Hive) and streaming platforms such as Kafka.
  • Strong SQL skills, including the ability to write complex queries, create views, and optimize execution plans.
  • Demonstrated understanding of data privacy concepts, regulatory compliance, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Excellent analytical mindset with a keen eye for detail and a passion for building reliable, secure data systems.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

  • Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in a quantitative discipline.
  • Experience with privacy‑enhancing technologies such as differential privacy, tokenization, or encryption at rest.
  • Familiarity with cloud data platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and infrastructure‑as‑code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation).
  • Knowledge of data‑governance frameworks and tools (e.g., Apache Atlas, Amundsen).
  • Prior work in a media, entertainment, or subscription‑based business model.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of translating technical concepts for non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Track record of contributing to open‑source projects or publishing technical articles.

Core Competencies & Skills

  • Problem Solving: Ability to dissect complex data challenges, propose elegant solutions, and iterate quickly.
  • Collaboration: Comfortable working in multidisciplinary teams, partnering with product managers, security analysts, and compliance officers.
  • Adaptability: Thrive in a fast‑moving environment where priorities shift and new technologies emerge regularly.
  • Ownership: Take end‑to‑end responsibility for pipeline reliability, from design through production monitoring.
  • Continuous Learning: Demonstrated commitment to staying current with industry trends, privacy regulations, and emerging data‑engineering tools.
