[Remote] Business Process Consultant Revenue Cycle, Intelligent Automation

Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is dedicated to advancing pediatric care and is seeking a Business Process Consultant for Revenue Cycle Intelligent Automation. This role involves designing, building, and implementing AI-driven solutions to enhance revenue cycle operations, focusing on efficiency and financial performance.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain written documentation for processes that exist between departments, systems, external vendors and payers
- Act as a high-level business process consultant between operations, performance improvement and IT for needs that cross boundaries. Implement processes and practices that can adapt quickly to changing organization, business, and payer demands. The position does not replace normal relationships between various departments but rather acts as a compliment to existing relationships to enhance and expedite performance improvement activities
- Reviews business process, system or other changes that might impact existing workflows and recommends methods to optimize to desired state and improve efficiency. Review system or process architecture in scope of assigned projects
- Perform business impact reviews of test plans that span across departments, workflows or systems or to assess impact, efficiency and effectiveness. Essential Functions
- Create, optimize, and support the implementation of processes that link closely to system workflows. Determine how these workflows will impact existing staffing, how to continuously refresh and monitor these flows and recommend optimal change management processes
- Communicate information clearly and create an environment where people can engage in open dialogue and reach effective solutions together to optimize workflow or process
- Direct cross-functional teams to resolve complex issues related to automated workflows or other complex processes or lead discussions with the business and operational leaders to analyze reporting needs, configure and model data and develop reports using specialized knowledge of reporting applications and software applications
- Responsible for creating and managing the financial and operational reports generated on regular and an ad hoc basis using software applications for report writing and data warehousing; provides consultation and assistance to ensure end users and operational reporting needs are met through report development and design
- Primary liaison to various internal and external user groups within CHOP in terms of revenue cycle data reporting and analysis. Assist revenue cycle leadership, management, and staff in analyzing, interpreting, and presenting data and information to various parties
- Develop and build reporting solutions that monitor and benchmark cost, utilization and other quality and performance indicators; Act as primary support to senior leadership in accessing relevant data necessary to develop strategic and operational business plans, and process improvements
- Develop business case analysis to support process optimization and change
- Perform troubleshooting, problem solving activities related to business intelligence reporting as necessary. Analyze data and reports to understand business impact, correlations/discrepancies, and to propose changes/alternate solutions. Work closely with the Information Technology teams to resolve issues and perform analysis in a timely manner
- Partner with operational and IT leaders to develop and execute CHOP’s digital transformation roadmap focused on Epic optimization, automation, and AI integration
- Assess readiness and develop operational rollout plans for digital tools, Epic upgrades, and automation solutions
- Conduct impact assessments for new technology or system changes and recommend process adaptations to optimize adoption and performance
- Translate business objectives into digital enablement strategies that align with CHOP’s organizational goals
- Develop metrics and KPIs to measure success of digital initiatives and provide executive-level reporting
- Manage the intake, prioritization, and execution of AI and automation projects, ensuring alignment with operational goals and available resources
- Develop business cases, including cost-benefit analyses and return-on-investment (ROI) metrics, for proposed digital and automation initiatives
- Lead process discovery and assessment sessions with business stakeholders to identify automation or AI opportunities that deliver measurable ROI
- Serve as the operational liaison between the RPA/AI technical teams, IT, and end users to ensure clear communication, proper governance, and timely issue resolution
- Oversee automation bot lifecycle management, including maintenance, monitoring, and performance evaluation
- Partner with Finance and Data Science teams to develop use cases for predictive analytics, AI assisted decision support, and process automation
- Serve as a bridge between technical teams (IT, Data Science, RPA) and operational departments to translate business needs into functional requirements
- Facilitate communication between Revenue Cycle, Performance Improvement, Clinical, and Digital teams to ensure alignment of digital initiatives
- Present project outcomes, opportunities, and strategic updates to leadership and governance committees
Skills
- Proven experience in identifying, designing, and implementing AI or RPA (Robotic Process Automation) solutions within a complex hospital or healthcare environment
- A passion for data-driven decision-making and an ability to translate complex data sets into actionable business process improvements
- Deep familiarity with Epic systems and an understanding of how to leverage its framework for revenue cycle optimization and automation
- The ability to partner effectively with diverse stakeholders—from clinical unit leaders to the Chief Nursing Officer—to deliver technical solutions that respect operational realities
- A robust understanding of the healthcare revenue cycle, including registration, billing, and payer contract structures
- A values-driven approach that prioritizes integrity, teamwork, and the ultimate goal of supporting world-class care for children and families
- At least five (5) years experience with system design, process workflow design or business/systems consulting
- Strong analytical and communication skills
- Strong computer skills to include database analysis
- Extensive knowledge of workflow and/or system design
- Extensive knowledge of analytical tools, business intelligence tools and statistical packages
- 2 years of consulting experience is strongly preferred for this role
- Bachelor's Degree Preferred
